Odisha Running Out Of Vaccines, Requests Centre To Supply 25 Lakh Doses Immediately

Bhubaneswar: The total number of vaccination in the State came down to around 1.10 lakh on Thursday. The low rate of vaccination has been attributed to the shortage of vaccines in Odisha where more than 2.5 lakh persons were getting vaccinated daily.

Due to vaccine shortage, Odisha had to shut nearly 700 vaccination centres today. Out of the 1,400 functional sites, only 755 were active today, said Health and Family Welfare Department Ministry Naba Kisore Das in a letter to Union Health Ministry Dr Harsh Vardhan today.

Till 10 am on April 7, Odisha had 5.34 lakh doses of Covishield. By April 9, Odisha will have no stock of Covishield vaccine, Das said.

“This matter has been raised by the Additional Chief Secretary (Health) with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare repeatedly,” Das stated. In this perspective, Das urged Harsh Vardhan to facilitate the supply of 25 lakh doses or ten days stock of Covishield vaccine to Odisha immediately.
