Jagatsinghpur: A shocking incident has come to light from Balitutha Panchayat under Kujang police limits here. As many as four members of a family were charred to death after a massive fire broke out in a house of Banapat village.

The deceased have been identified as Nabaghana Sahu, his wife Kamala Sahu, their daughter Rubina and son-in-law Harekrushna Mallik.

According to the neighbours, the incident occurred last night at around 1 am when the entire village was fast asleep. The neighbours rushed to the scene when they heard Rubina’s cry for help. On reaching the spot, they saw that everyone in the household had caught on fire and it was extremely difficult and risky to enter the house and save anyone.

On intimation, fire officials reached the spot and doused the flames.

While Nabaghana and Harekrushna had already been charred to death, Kamala succumbed to her injuries when she was en-route to the hospital.

Meanwhile, Rubina was first rushed to Kujang Medical for first-aid and later she was taken to SCB Hospital in Cuttack. During treatment, she said that her husband Harekrushna had committed the crime. Later, she too succumbed to her injuries.

According to reports, Rubina had married Harekrushna some few months back. An altercation had ensued between the two last evening, after which he had even threatened o kill her.

In the middle of the night, he poured petrol over the family members and after setting them ablaze, he was trying to escape the scene but became a victim of his crime himself, said sources.
