Odisha – SAI Regional Badminton Academy Observes Its Foundation Day

Bhubaneswar: Odisha SAI Regional Badminton Academy (OSRBA), a hub for nurturing and grooming shuttlers from the state observed its fifth foundation day, today, in the presence Sports Secretary Vineel Krishna,  Director, Odisha-SAI Regional Badminton Academy and Joint Secretary, Sports and Youth Services Department, Subhranshu Mishra, officials of the Sports Department, coaches and players of the academy.  On this occasion, a newsletter was  released by the officials and a friendly match was organised between the players of the academy.

Sports Secretary interacted with the players and encouraged them to train with dedication and aim for bigger goals. Krishna said, “It’s a matter of immense joy that Odisha SAI-Regional Badminton Academy, Bhubaneswar, has been a centre of excellence for Badminton in the State. Academy of this stature would live on and inspire many generations of Badminton stars. I, wish the Academy a great future in the sphere of professional Badminton training, being rated as one among the pioneer Badminton Academy in the whole country. Odisha Sports under the leadership of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik is rising to unprecedented levels and I am sure OSRBA would play a significant role in adding laurels for the state.”

The main aims and objectives of the academy were highlighted at the function, by OSRBA  Director. It was stated that the academy aims to promote and also give exposure to the talented badminton players of the region.

Mishra, said, “The aim of the academy is to nurture the talent of Badminton players and to prepare them for National and International Tournaments. It’s a matter of great pleasure on my part for having been associated with OSRBA. This Academy is a regional centre of excellence in Badminton coaching with the best of facilities and training modules under direct supervision of Sports and Youth Services Department. I wish the trainees a grand success in their career. They would surely bring laurels to the Academy through their world class play at the National & International level. My earnest good wishes for all my trainees, coaches and the entire team.”

OSRBA boasts of a sprawling training campus with a four-court indoor hall, facilitated by a Ultra-modern Gym and is under the direct supervision of one Officer in charge, two SAI Coaches, Feeders and physios and an in-house messing infrastructure. Proper coaching and training to the trainees is the mandate of this Academy under coaches deployed by SAI and State Government in the premises of Indoor Sports Complex, Saheed Nagar, Bhubaneswar. ¬ The Sanction Strength of OSRBA is 45 and presently there are 33 trainees under active coaching, boys consisting two-third & girls one-third of the capacity as on date. Odisha SAI-Regional Badminton Academy, a brain child of the Sports & Youth Service Department, Govt. of Odisha with technical support from Sports Authority of India, New Delhi got its footing on 15th May, 2017.
