Bhubaneswar: The state has witnessed an unprecedented spike in pre-monsoon rainfall this year, with a staggering 86% increase in precipitation compared to the seasonal average.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Odisha received 238.6 mm of rainfall between March 1 and May 31, significantly surpassing the normal 128.6 mm for the period.
At least 21 districts have been severely impacted, recording rainfall levels over 60% above average. The anomalous weather pattern has piqued the interest of meteorologists and is likely to have a profound impact on agricultural planning and local water management strategies in the coming weeks.
