Bhubaneswar: The State Tourism industry recorded a significant growth in the arrival of foreign tourists after the launching of direct flights between Bhubaneswar and Dubai, Bangkok, Singapore.
Reacting to a written query of BJD MLA Bhupinder Singh, Tourism Minister Aswini Patra today informed the State Assembly that the State witnessed 2,269 footfall of foreign tourists in 2021 while the number increased to 22,121 in 2022, a jump of 874.92 % from the previous year.
Till November, 2023, the foreigners’ footfall recorded a growth of 118.58 % with the arrival of 40,383 visitors.
There are 358 recognised tourist spots in the State, the minister said.
MLA Singh sought to know whether the government has any proposal to include any places in his constituency Narla (Kalahandi) in the tourist map.
The Minister replied that the government has not received any proposal to include any other place of Narla in tourists map.
