Bhubaneswar: Two separate loot incidents were reported in the state, with a 70-year-old woman being murdered by burglars in Jajpur district and two bike-borne youths being hacked and looted by miscreants in Balasore district, last night.
In the first incident, Koushalya Pati, a widow was residing with her daughter, an ASHA worker at Tigiria village under Balichandrapur police limits in Jajpur district. Last night, Pati was asleep with her daughter when the burglars struck around midnight.
As Pati woke up and tried to resist, the miscreants attacked her with a sharp object, killing her on the spot. Her daughter, who was also present in the house, was injured by the miscreants. Though Pati was rushed to Badachana Community Health Centre (CHC), she was declared dead on arrival.
In the second incident, two youths were looted by miscreants near Jodipol under Soro police limits in Balasore district. The victims, who were riding a bike, were intercepted by three miscreants near Jodipol. The miscreants attacked the duo and snatched their bike and Rs 30,000 in cash before fleeing the scene.
Police have launched an investigation into both incidents and assured to take strict action against those found guilty.
