Bhubaneswar: The Odisha State Election Commission has released a set of notifications outlining the schedule for by-elections to fill vacant rural local body positions, including Zilla Parishad Members, Panchayat Samiti Members, Sarpanchs, and Ward Members.

By-elections for vacancies in rural local body positions, including Zilla Parishad Members, Panchayat Samiti Members, Sarpanchs, and Ward Members, will be held due to deaths, resignations, disqualifications, or de-reservation of seats from a lack of eligible candidates. Specifically, 43 Sarpanch and 272 Ward Member posts are scheduled for by-elections on June 23, with vote counting and result declaration on June 24. The nomination process will run from May 26 to May 31, excluding government holidays, as announced by the Odisha State Election Commission and the Chief Electoral Officer’s office.

As per the notification, by-elections for all vacant rural local body positions will take place from 7:00 AM to 1:00 PM on June 23. The Model Code of Conduct will be enforced in the relevant constituencies from May 20 to June 24, 2025. Results will be submitted to the State Election Commission on June 25, 2025, and the names of elected members will be published in the official gazette on June 26, 2025.
