In addition to that, we have confiscated the car and the motorcycle that was involved in carrying out the heist.”
A Bolero SUV, a scooter and a bike that the gang had stolen earlier were also recovered, added Rai.
Notably on June 2, three officials of Gurapalli National Highway toll gate under Khallikote police limits were robbed of Rs 25,30,000 by miscreants at Haridamuli square, when they were on their way to deposit the toll money in a bank. The toll gate officials had also alleged that the miscreants had fired blank shots.
Soon after, Ganjam SP Brijesh Kumar Rai had formed a team to investigate into the matter including Sub-Divisional Police Officers (SDPO) and Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of nearby areas. Following a tip-off from Cuttack DCP, the team was able to apprehend the criminals.
The cops have ruled out the possibility of the toll gate officials’ involvement in the matter. Some robbers are still absconding and the team’s investigation is underway to nab them.
The six accused have been identified as George, Prashant, Subhash, Ramesh Das, Kukuda and Ghanta Srinivas. They are involved in several crimes in Maharashtra and Andhra Pradesh as well and those cases are also being investigated currently, Rai concluded.
