Bhubaneswar: Major parts of Odisha reeled under scorching heatwave conditions as six places in the State recorded a maximum day temperature of 43 degrees and above out of the 19 places that breached the 40 degrees Celsius mark, informed the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Sonepur was the hottest place in the State recording the highest temperature of 44.5 degrees Celsius.
The places that recorded 40 degrees Celsius or more are Angul (42.1), Baripada (40.4), Jharsuguda (43.0), Keonjhar (40.6), Sambalpur (42.4), Sundargarh (43.0), Hirakud (41.0), Bhawanipatna (41.5), Bolangir (44.0), Titilagarh (43.0), Talcher (41.4), Bhadrak (40.5), Bargarh (40.6), Nuapada (41.5), Sonepur (44.5), Boudh (43.0), Nayagarh (40.0), Paralakhemundi (40.8) and Malkangiri (40.0).
The twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar recorded a maximum temperature of 37.0 and 37.1 degrees Celsius respectively.
The seaside town of Gopalpur was the coolest place with a temperature of 30.1 degrees Celsius followed by Puri at 32.0 and Paradip at 33.1.
