Odisha: Special Cell For Organised Crime At Police Commissionerate Soon

Bhubaneswar: The Twin City Police Commissionerate is drafting a proposal to setup a Special Cell which will deal with organised crime, drug peddling and a range of other notorious crimes. The Commissionerate of Police will be completing the proposal which will be sent for the Home Department’s review by the end of this week, Police Commissioner Sudhanshu Sarangi said.

Addressing mediapersons here on Tuesday, Sarangi said that as the Twin City is expanding in population, area and logistics the capacity of police stations becomes limited to deal with such specialised criminals. “A well-trained and well-groomed group of officers will be part of the Special Cell which will be headed by a Joint CP-ranked officer.”

Sarangi and other officers of the Police Commissionerate had a meeting with the senior citizens, retired IPS and IAS officers recently. There was an elaborate discussion on law and order and crime control issues in Bhubaneswar and Cuttack. We have noted the suggesstions from the intelligentsia and general public and devising a strategy to offer better policing to the citizens,” the Police Commissioner added.
