Bhubaneswar: The State government today alerted Collectors of six districts to stay prepared to face any possible eventuality in view of the heavy rain under the influence of low pressure over Bay of Bengal.

In a letter to the Collectors, the Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) asked districts under orange and yellow warning to keep administrative machinery ready to face any eventuality

In urban areas, low-lying areas may have water logging, and road and drains may be submerged under water. The ULBs must keep the drains/storm water channels de-congested, and adequate de-watering pumps may be deployed as per requirement, the letter read.

Heavy to very heavy rainfall recorded may be reported immediately to SRC office.

Advice for fishermen should be strictly implemented. The Collectors have been asked to submit report on damage, if occurred due to heavy rainfall immediately for information of the government.

A low-pressure area has formed over central and adjoining North Bay of Bengal. The associated cyclonic circulation extends upto mid-tropospheric levels tilting south-westwards with height. It is likely to become more marked and move northwestwards towards Odisha coast during next two days.

Most parts of the State are likely to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall in next five days under the influence of low pressure.
