Bhubaneswar: In response to the request made by the Odisha Abhibhabak Mahasangha (OAM), Special Relief Commissioner (SRC) has made an appeal to all the private schools, both Odia and English medium, to waive fee for one month in the districts severely affected by the recent Cyclone FANI.
In his appeal made today (May 13, 2019), SRC Bishnupada Sethi has mentioned, “Considering the plight of the people and especially the students in the cyclone affected areas, we sincerely appeal to all the private educational institutions to consider waiving the school fee of the students for one month in the severely affected districts of Puri, Khordha, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur and Kendrapada.”
He has also mentioned, “Lakhs of dwelling houses both kutcha and pucca have been damaged and livelihood of the people have been severely affected. The students have lost their books, study materials and uniform. Te Government have been doing its best to assist the affected population and restoration of their livelihood.”
The Odisha SRC has also underlined, “Among others, the Government has waived the school fees and examination fees of the students in Government schools up to the high school level in the affected areas and also taking steps to provide two extra pairs of uniform in extremely affected areas and one extra pair in the severely affected areas to the children up to Elementary School level. Odisha Abhibhabak Mahasangha has requested for waiver of the school fee for private Odia and English Medium Schools in the cyclone affected districts of the State.”
Notably, the OAM had urged the SRC on May 11 for waiving school fee in Government and private Odia and English medium schools in the cyclone affected districts of Odisha.
In the wake of the appeal made by the Odisha SRC today, OAM chairman Rtn. Basudev Bhatta has expressed his gratitude to the Odisha Government.
