Bhubaneswar:  Odisha State Commission for Women (OSCW) member Urmila Mahapatra on Thursday visited AIIMS Bhubaneswar to meet the woman critically injured in the Pipili burning incident.

The woman, who sustained severe burns in a self-immolation attempt allegedly linked to financial debt, is undergoing treatment in the Trauma Care Red Zone ICU.

Mahapatra expressed concern over the victim’s condition and said discussions would be held with doctors regarding her treatment, including the possibility of shifting her to the Burn Ward ICU, which currently has no available bed.

According to Additional SP, the incident in Jaipur under Pipili police station was not the result of a family dispute. A suicide note and a kerosene bottle were seized from the scene, and the note has been sent for verification. Police are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area.

The woman, with burns covering approximately 80–90% of her body, remains on a ventilator. Police had attempted to record her statement last night but found her unable to speak. Her father and husband have been questioned and confirmed that no domestic issues were involved.

Pipili SDPO has also visited AIIMS to monitor the situation, and the investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident is ongoing.
