Odisha: State Police Intensifies Combing As Maoists Announce Election Boycott

Bhubaneswar: A women Maoist cadre was killed and several others injured in an exchange of fire at Ramapadar under Tumudibandh police limits on Wednesday morning. The incident took place during a combing operation carried out by the SOG and district police, that lasted for over 30 minutes, DG Police, Dr RP Sharma said.

The police recovered four firearms including a .303 rifle, three hand grenades, 1 landmine and explosive materials from the spot. Search operations are on to sanitise the area.

The encounter comes in the wake of election boycott announced by the CPI (Maoist) in the LWE-dominated areas of Odisha.

This year so far, 13 LWE incident shave been reported in various parts of the state in which four civilians have been killed. One Maoist militia was neutralised while, 15 were arrested and three extremists have surrendered, Dr Sharma added.
