Odisha STF Arrests 10 Interstate Smugglers, 32 Tonnes Of Cargo Worth Rs 13.50 Lakh Seized

Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch has busted a major interstate smuggling racket with the arrest of 10 persons from a coal depot located on National Highway 55.

According to the STF, nine trucks loaded with lam coke, one earth moving vehicle, packaging material and other incriminating items have been seized during the operation which was carried out at Baba Dhabaleswar Coal Depot on Saturday.

The STF had received a tip-off about organized cargo theft and illegal unloading of expensive materials from inter-state transport vehicles by miscreants on NH-55. The raid was carried out under Choudwar police limits, basing on this information, an STF official said.

“Eight trucks loaded with Lam Coke were found at the spot, from where voluminous Lam Cokes had been unloaded (stolen) and the same was found to have been loaded in other trucks. This was done for the purpose of disposal elsewhere,” the STF official added.

A heap of illegally unloaded Lam Coke weighing about 32 Metric tons was seized. “Total 54 metric tons of Lam Coke was found to have been stolen and stored by the accused illegally. The approximate value of the stolen material has been estimated at Rs 13.50 lakh.

The STF has booked the accused were booked under Sections 379, 411, and 120(B) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC). Further investigation is in progress, the official said.
