Bhubaneswar: The Special Task Force (STF) of Odisha Crime Branch on Sunday confiscated Ill-gotten properties worth over Rs 73 lakh of a drug trafficker under the NDPS Act, 1985.
According to reports, the STF forfeited cash and bank deposits to the tune of Rs 73.75 lakh amassed by drug trafficker Shiba Prasad Das alias Shibu, a native Mundia Sahi under Jatni police limits in Khurda district following the approval from the competent authority under the NDPS Act, 1985.
It is worth mentioning here that the STF had seized brown sugar weighing around 3 kg from the rented accommodation of the drug trafficker in Odisha’s Nayagarh district on January 25, 2022. In addition, the STF seized three guns, seven magazines, 43 rounds of ammunition, and cash to the tune of Rs 65.32 lakh from Das’ possession.
A case was registered against Das under the NDPS Act and a probe was launched into the incident. Additionally, STF sleuths had seized cash to the tune of around Rs 6.68 lakh and Rs 1.64 lakh from two bank accounts of Das during the investigation.
Based on the seizures, the STF approached the Competent Authority and Administrator of the NDPS Act, Kolkata, and received approval for the forfeiture of the seized properties of the accused.
