Bhubaneswar: Students across Odisha today participated in a state-wide celebration of National Youth Day by collectively singing the national song ‘Vande Mataram’, marking its 150th anniversary. Schools, colleges, and universities under the Skill Development & Technical Education Department joined hands to observe the occasion with patriotic fervor.
The event began at 11 am, with students, teachers, and staff gathering in educational institutions to sing the iconic song together. Alongside the rendition, students also took the “Atmanirbhar Bharat Swadeshi Sankalp” pledge, committing to support local products and contribute to India’s self-reliance. Photography, videography, and competitions such as quizzes and debates were organised as part of the celebrations.
Speaking about the event, a student of Fakir Mohan Junior College, Balasore, said, “We sang ‘Vande Mataram’ and took the Sankalp to be vocal for local, choose ‘Made in India’ products and services, and contribute to India’s self-reliance. The school also held competitions and awarded prizes to the winners.”
The Odia Language, Literature & Culture Department had earlier directed all educational institutions to organise a collective rendition of ‘Vande Mataram’ to commemorate the historic milestone. The celebrations highlighted the spirit of patriotism and youth participation, making National Youth Day 2026 a memorable occasion across the state.
