Bhubaneswar: Students across Odisha will sing the national song ‘Vande Mataram’ in unison on November 7 to mark the 150th anniversary of its composition.
The Department of Odia Language, Literature, and Culture has written to the School and Mass Education Department and the Higher Education Department, directing all educational institutions — from schools to universities — to organize the singing of ‘Vande Mataram’ on the day.
Composed by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay, the song was originally part of his iconic novel ‘Anand Math’. Bankim Chandra penned the song on September 7, 1875, and it was first published in 1882. Later, on January 24, 1950, ‘Vande Mataram’ was officially recognized as India’s national song, symbolizing patriotism and unity.
The special observance aims to rekindle the spirit of nationalism among students and honour one of the most celebrated creations in India’s freedom movement.
