Bhubaneswar: A severe heatwave has engulfed Odisha, pushing temperatures to record highs in multiple cities statewide. As of 11:30 am today, the mercury rose to unprecedented heights, leaving residents scorching under the blistering sun.
According to the latest temperature readings by the India Meteorological Department, Sambalpur recorded a scorching 39.2°C, followed closely by Jharsuguda at 38.8°C and Hirakud at 38.6°C.
Other cities, including Balasore (37.8°C), Rourkela (37.6°C), and Bhubaneswar (36.8°C), also reported temperatures well above the normal range.
The intense heat has left residents struggling to cope up, with many are advised to take necessary precautions to avoid heat-related illnesses.
Health experts, meanwhile, recommend staying hydrated, avoiding peak sun hours, and taking regular breaks in cool, shaded areas.
The heatwave is expected to continue in the coming days, with temperatures likely to remain high.
