Bhubaneswar: Following the re-issuance of the U.S. travel advisory for India in June 2025 citing concerns over crime and safety in Odisha, the state government has announced eight key measures aimed at strengthening security infrastructure at major tourist locations.

Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the state assembly on Monday that these steps have been implemented to ensure the safety of tourists and enhance Odisha’s image as a safe travel destination.

In a written reply to a question by Bhawanipatna (SC) MLA Sagar Charan Das, the Chief Minister stated that the eight measures being taken are:

  1. Regular police patrolling and deployment of police personnel at tourist sites.
  2. Intensified night checks.
  3. Installation of CCTV cameras on key approach roads.
  4. Joint enforcement with the Excise Department against illegal liquor sales.
  5. Strict vehicle safety checks.
  6. Additional deployment of personnel during yatras and festive gatherings.
  7. Coordination with temple committees for volunteer support.
  8. Operation of police beat houses at temples during the festival season.

Additionally, the government is running public safety campaigns to improve the state’s tourism image.

These include awareness drives with local youth clubs and NGOs promoting the slogan “Safe Tourism, Safe Odisha,” installation of tourist assistance signboards at entry points and visible locations, and instructions for SDPOs/IsICs to conduct regular safety meetings with local committees.
