Bhubaneswar: Director General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh met Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi at the Lok Seva Bhawan on Monday to discuss the expansion of NCC in Odisha.

According to an official press release, during the discussions, it was revealed that the number of NCC cadets in Odisha currently stands at 60,000, which will be increased to 90,000. To achieve this, NCC units will be established in Kendriya Vidyalayas, Navodaya Vidyalayas, and other schools across the state.

To enhance the skills of NCC cadets in the state, three training centres will be set up in Cuttack, Berhampur, and Sambalpur. Five acres of land have already been identified for this purpose in Cuttack and Berhampur, while 10 acres will be allocated in Sambalpur.

Additionally, the state government will provide officers and staff for the establishment of an NCC Group Headquarters in Koraput.

A decision has also been made to provide aviation training to NCC cadets at the Jharsuguda Airport. For this purpose, the state government has allocated ₹1.5 crore for the construction of a hangar at the airport.

The Chief Minister stated that the NCC is a prestigious organization of the country, unparalleled in nurturing the potential of students and youth and channeling their energy towards national service. He directed the state government to extend all necessary support for the expansion of the NCC in Odisha.

The meeting was attended by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Additional Chief Secretary to the Chief Minister Nikunj Bihari Dhal, and senior officials from the NCC.

To ensure the swift implementation of these decisions, Colonel Sagar Mohanty from the NCC and Arvind Agrawal, Commissioner-cum-Secretary of the Higher Education Department, will coordinate between the NCC and the state government.
