Bhubaneswar: Odisha is likely to experience increased cold wave conditions starting December 25, with dry and cold winds blowing from the northwest direction after the western disturbance passes, according to the India Meteorological Department.
As per the IMD forecast, the cold wave in Odisha is expected to intensify from Christmas due to dry, cold north-westerly winds sweeping the region. The departure of a western disturbance will also contribute to a further drop in night temperatures across the state.
Odisha is currently experiencing severe cold conditions with dense fog covering several parts, especially in districts like Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Kandhamal, and Koraput.
Meanwhile, the IMD warned that fog intensity may increase further due to moisture-laden air circulation, potentially reducing visibility and impacting daily activities.
Going by today’s prediction, dense fog is very likely to occur at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, and Kandhamal. In addition, shallow to moderate fog is expected at one or two places in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Sambalpur, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Angul, Deogarh, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, and Koraput today.
The weather department has forecast similar conditions for December 23, with dense fog likely in Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, and Kandhamal.
