**Bhubaneswar**: The Odisha Government on Tuesday decided to build 2200 affordable houses at Saheed Nagar here for the economically weaker sections (EWS), low income groups (LIG) and slum dwellers, official sources said.
This was approved after a review meeting held at State Secretariat under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary AP Padhi.
Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) will construct the affordable homes meant for the urban poor.
Besides, a proposal of multi-level car parking in Saheed Nagar was also approved in the meeting.
“It was the second review meeting held under guidance of Chief Secretary. Two projects including traffic signal and multi-level car parking at Rajmahal Square were approved during the first meeting and today three proposals got approval,” informed BDA Vice-Chairman Krishan Kumar.
Kumar further said that proposal for construction of 2200 affordable houses and a multi-level car parking were cleared today.
For parking projects, one is of about Rs 60 crore and another of Rs 20-22 crore has been earmarked, Kumar added.
The meeting also discussed the redesign of Janpath in Bhubaneswar to make it user-friendly especially for pedestrians and cyclists.
According to the policy, the Government would provide free land for affordable housing projects on public private partnership (PPP) mode to developers. The policy has seven different models to create low cost housing stocks, including mandatory reservation of 10 per cent houses in all projects above 2000 square meter developed by private developers.
