Bhubaneswar: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi announced on Sunday that Odisha will soon construct a state-of-the-art stadium in Bhubaneswar at a cost of Rs 1,000 crore. This development forms part of a larger Rs 4,124 crore plan aimed at upgrading sports infrastructure across 14 blocks in the state over the next four years.
The ambitious project is expected to bolster Odisha’s position as a prominent sports hub in India.
Speaking at the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze 2025 event held at Kalinga Stadium, CM Majhi expressed pride in the state’s rising stature in the sports arena.
“Today is a proud day for Odisha,” he said. “Having successfully hosted the Hockey World Cup twice, the government remains committed to improving the quality and accessibility of sports facilities for our athletes.”
The World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze, jointly organised by the Athletics Federation of India and the Sports & Youth Services Department, showcased the talents of young athletes from over 15 countries at Kalinga Stadium.
The broader Rs 4,124 crore plan includes the development of high-quality stadiums in various blocks across Odisha, designed to nurture local sporting talent and promote excellence in athletics throughout the state.
CM Majhi also highlighted that hosting the World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze would pave the way for Odisha to host the prestigious Continental Tour Gold in the future, further strengthening the state’s reputation on the international sports map.
