Bhubaneswar: Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated in Odisha on April 11. This was announced by Chand Committee Anjuman Islamia, Odisha on Tuesday evening.
The date of the Eid celebration depends on the Shawwal crescent moon sighting. Saudi Arabia, UAE, and Qatar have declared that Eid will be celebrated on April 10.
Shawwal crescent moon was not spotted in Cuttack, Delhi, Hyderabad, and Lucknow. Hence, Eid celebrations will be held on April 11.
Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated on the first day of Shawwal, the tenth month of the Islamic lunar calendar, after the sighting of the new moon or crescent moon.
Eid-ul-Fitr or Eid marks the end of the fasting month of Ramadan.
It is a major Islamic festival where “Eid” means “celebration” and “Fitr” means “breaking of the fast” and is celebrated by Muslims worldwide but the exact date of the festival varies each year, as Islam follows a lunar calendar that is based on the sighting of the new moon.
