Bhubaneswar: Several regions of Odisha are likely to receive heavy rainfall during the next four days under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over the Bay of Bengal. The coastal region of the state is likely to witness heavy rainfall accompanied by thundershowers during this period, the regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) here predicted on Monday.
The active cyclonic circulation is likely to develop into a low-pressure area within the next 36 hours. As a result, the IMD has issued yellow alerts in several districts of Odisha.
Thirteen districts of the state are likely to experience heavy rainfall along with lightning and thunderstorms on Monday. These districts include Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Keonjhar, and Mayurbhanj.
The intensity of rainfall is likely to increase in Odisha from Tuesday and continue till September 22. The weather office has forecast heavy rains at one or two places in Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Angul, Dhenkanal, Boudh, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Koraput, Nabarangpur and Malkangiri on September 19.
People are apprehensive that heavy rain during this period may dampen the Ganesh Puja and Nuakhai celebrations scheduled to be held on September 19 and 20-21 respectively.
