Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department has forecast heavy to very heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning, over various districts of Odisha from June 24 to June 28, 2025.
The weather alert is attributed to a trough extending from a cyclonic circulation over central parts of south Uttar Pradesh to the northwest Bay of Bengal, persisting up to 1.5 km above mean sea level.
An upper air cyclonic circulation lies over south Jharkhand, tilting southwards with height, while another upper air cyclonic circulation over west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal has merged with the above system.
Several districts have already experienced significant rainfall, with Tiring in Mayurbhanj recording 10 cm, Kashipur in Rayagada and Kaptipada in Mayurbhanj recording 7 cm each, and Daringibadi in Kandhamal also recording 7 cm of rainfall.
Residents can expect thunderstorms with high chances of precipitation, ranging from 70% to 100%, and humidity levels between 81% and 94% in the affected areas. Temperatures are likely to range from 25°C to 31°C during this period
