Bhubaneswar: In the wake of the horrific incident in Hyderabad wherein a four-year-old boy was mauled by stray dogs on Tuesday, the Odisha government has directed ordered all the Chief District Veterinary Officers (CDVO) to remain vigilant and keep the streets free from stray dogs.
Directing the CDVOs, Animal Resources Development Minister Ranendra Pratap Swain tweeted, “Seeing this horrifying incident at Hyderabad, I have directed respective CDVOs of all 30 districts of Odisha to be strictly vigilant and remove stray dogs from the road. The CDVOs have also been instructed to take immediate & proper action regarding this.”
Earlier, a video of a stray dog attack in Hyderabad went viral sending shockwaves among the netizens.
The clip shows canines attacking the boy while tailing him, following which he falls down. The child was apparently carrying a packet containing some food items when the dogs pounced on him.
The victim suffered serious injuries in the attack and was rushed to a hospital by his father and others where he was declared brought dead.
Earlier in October 2022, a one-year-old toddler died after being attacked by stray dogs in Noida.
In view of the stray dog menace across the country, the Supreme Court had suggested people who routinely feed stray dogs could be made responsible for their vaccination and also liable to bear the costs if those animals attack people while emphasising the need to find a solution to the stray dogs’ menace.
