Bhubaneswar: In a major boost to Odisha’s disaster preparedness, Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari on Saturday announced the construction of a state-of-the-art disaster management building in Bhubaneswar, estimated to cost Rs 300 crore.
The announcement came during Pujari’s visit to the State Fire Service and Emergency Services Control Room, where he reviewed the state’s readiness to tackle natural and man-made calamities.
The new facility, slated for completion within two years, will house key agencies including the Fire Services, Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), Forest Department, Odisha State Disaster Management Authority (OSDMA), and other emergency units under one roof.
The integrated hub aims to ensure faster and coordinated responses during cyclones, floods, heatwaves, lightning strikes, fires, and urban emergencies.
Equipped with advanced technology and a unified control room, the building is expected to significantly enhance disaster management efficiency.
“The new hub will enable synchronized operations, particularly for high-rise firefighting and urban disaster preparedness,” Pujari said.
During the review meeting at ODRAF, senior officials including DG of Fire Services Sudhanshu Sarangi and DIG Uma Sankar Das discussed plans to strengthen unified disaster response mechanisms across the state.
