Odisha To Host 25th All India Forest Sports Meet 2020

Bhubaneswar: Odisha is emerging as Sports Capital of India after the successful hosting of 'World Cup Hockey-2018' and now it is proud of organizing the first edition of Khelo India University Games-2020'.

Odisha Forest & Environment Department is going one step ahead to host the Silver Jubilee of the All India Forest Sports Meet (AIFSM) at a different venue in the temple city State Capital Bhubaneswar from 3rd to 7th March, 2020.

This is the second time, Odisha is going to host the AIFSM, earlier Odisha hosted the same in 1994. It is aimed at promoting sports activities among the staff and officers of the Forest Department and sister organization of all the States, Union Territories and Central Government thereby nurturing good health and spirit.

In total 37 contingents from different States, Union Territories & Forestry Institutions will participate in the games. For the smooth management of the programme, 16 High-Level Committees have been constituted under the Chairmanship of PCCF & HoFF, Odisha.

Necessary arrangements have been made for accommodation, transport and fooding for the participants. About 2500 participants will take part in 23 events & 285 sub-events like Athletics, Archery, Chess. Weight lifting & Swimming etc. The events will encompass both outdoor & indoor activities. The venue of the programme will be at Kalinga Stadium & KI1T campus, Bhubaneswar.

"Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik will inaugurate the programme on March 31 at Kalinga Stadium.  Adding to the goodwill of Bhubaneswar as an evolving sports capital, this event by the Forest and Environment Department will be a boost to the state's overall sporting and tourism potential," the Department stated.

"Visitors, sportspersons, their fans and family members can explore the beautiful tourist attraction of Odisha by accessing information of various eco-tour packages. Odisha with rich bio-diversity is home to largest Ramsar sites; brackish water Chilika Lagoon and Bhitarkarnika Mangroves forests," the Department added.

List of Games: Basketball, Carrom, Volleyball, Chess, Squash, Bridge, Table Tennis, Billiards & Snooker, Hockey, Golf, Football, Rifle Shooting, Cricket, Athletics, Badminton, Tug of War, Lawn Tennis, Swimming, Archery, Kabaddi, Weight/Power Lifting, other indoor games.
