Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to host a two-day National Conference of the Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes Parliamentary Committee on August 29 and 30. The conference, which will be inaugurated by Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, aims to deliberate on the welfare, development, and empowerment of SCs and STs.
The theme of the conference is “Role of Parliamentary and Legislative Committees in Welfare, Development, and Empowerment of SCs and STs”. The conference will focus on strengthening constitutional safeguards, enhancing socio-economic development, and sharing best practices to empower SCs and STs.
The event will be attended by prominent dignitaries, including Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, Deputy Chairman of Rajya Sabha Harivansh Narayan Singh, Union Ministers Jual Oram and Dharmendra Pradhan, and over 120 delegates from across the country.
This will be the first meeting of a Parliamentary Committee in Odisha since 1994. The conference will feature an exhibition on Odisha’s handicrafts, artisanship, culture, and art, followed by cultural programs. After the conference, delegates will visit the Konark Sun Temple and have a darshan of Lord Jagannath in Puri.
The valedictory ceremony will be addressed by Governor Hari Babu Khambampati, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, and state ministers. The conference aims to ensure accountability in the implementation of welfare policies and realize an inclusive Viksit Bharat by 2047
