Bhubaneswar: Several regions in Odisha are likely to receive incessant rain on Thursday under the influence of an active cyclonic storm over the northwest Bay of Bengal. According to the weather office, a low-pressure area formed on the northwest coast of Odisha on Thursday under the influence of Wednesday’s cyclonic storm. The associated cyclonic storm is active at a height of 7.6 km in the atmosphere. This low-pressure area is likely to pass over Odisha in the next two days in the west-northwest direction bringing heavy to very heavy rain in some places of the state.
The regional center of the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in four districts of the state for the next four days. These districts Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Nuapada, Kalahandi and Kandhamal. In addition, a yellow warning has been issued for light to moderate rain in Puri, Khorda, Nayagarh, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Cuttack, Boudh, Sonpur, Bolangir, and Bargarh.
Hilly areas like Koraput, Nabrangpur, and Kalahandi are at risk of facing landslides due to heavy rainfall. Water logging in low-lying areas, occasionally poor visibility, and traffic disruption in urban areas are likely.
Due to the active cyclonic storm, the weather at the sea is expected to remain rough with strong winds blowing at 40 to 50 km per hour along the Odisha coastline. As a precautionary measure, fishermen have been prohibited from venturing into the sea until July 22.
