Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government is set to introduce an AI-based attendance verification system to ensure timely arrival of employees in government offices. Initially, the system will be rolled out on a priority basis at Lok Seva Bhawan and Kharavela Bhawan, before being expanded to all government offices across the state. The Electronics and IT Department has been consulted to prepare for its implementation.
The decision was reviewed at a secretary-level meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja at Lok Seva Bhawan on Tuesday. The meeting also discussed strict action against habitual latecomers, premature retirement for underperforming officials, and institutional strengthening to combat corruption.
A 15-day action plan was outlined, prioritizing prompt responses to action points from the Chief Minister and expediting ongoing works. Performance reviews for government officials and employees will be conducted monthly or periodically at the departmental level, with records maintained for possible disciplinary measures, including premature retirement under government provisions.
Discussions also identified potential areas for corruption—such as public service delivery, government procurement, human resource management, and enforcement irregularities—and emphasized strengthening vigilance and transparency.
Plans are also in motion to launch a data-driven Chief Minister’s Dashboard on October 1 to improve departmental monitoring and decision-making. The dashboard will track progress on major central and state infrastructure projects, with monthly review meetings held at district, departmental, and state levels.
Additionally, a workshop on ‘Viksit Odisha – Vision 2036 and 2047’ key performance indicators will be held on August 21, organized by the Planning and Convergence Department. Officials have also been encouraged to visit educational institutions during field visits to engage with teachers and students.
The meeting was attended by Development Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary Anu Garg, Additional Chief Secretaries Satyabrata Sahu, Deoranjan Kumar Singh, Surendra Kumar, Hemant Sharma, and senior departmental heads.
