Bhubaneswar: Odisha is switching to tetra packs for liquor sales, moving away from glass bottles to reduce environmental hazards and promote safer packaging, as part of its revised excise policy, informed Excise Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan in the Odisha Assembly.
Excise Minister’s reply came in response to a question raised by Champua legislator Sanatan Mahakud, seeking clarity on liquor packaging norms under the state’s excise policy.
Excise Minister Prithiviraj Harichandan highlighted that tetra packs are a more eco-friendly option, aligning with the government’s sustainability goals. The revised excise policy now allows liquor sales in tetra packs, similar to fruit juice packaging, replacing traditional glass bottles. This shift aims to reduce environmental impact and promote safer packaging practices.
Harichandan emphasized the government’s focus on sustainability, encouraging institutions and individuals to reuse and recycle glass bottles wherever possible.
