Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has announced plans to set up dedicated shelter homes for differently-abled women and girls under the existing SAHAYA scheme. The proposed facilities, to be named ‘Sahaya Gruha,’ aim to provide safe accommodation, care, and rehabilitation support for the vulnerable groups.
The Department of Social Security & Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities has issued directives to all district collectors, seeking feasibility reports for establishing these homes in areas where there is a significant need and a sizable number of beneficiaries. Collectors have been asked to evaluate available infrastructure, assess potential beneficiaries, and identify additional requirements for setting up the facilities.
Special Secretary Rajani Jani, in an official communication, emphasised the urgency of the matter, asking districts to furnish detailed reports at the earliest.
Districts where such facilities are not required are instructed to formally communicate this to the department.
“You are also requested to furnish non-requirement of such facility in your district to this department, if applicable. This may be treated as MOST URGENT.” the circular stated.
The directive excludes Balasore, Ganjam, Jagatsinghpur, Kandhamal, Nabarangpur, Sundargarh, and Subarnapur districts, which have been deemed outside the scope of the present exercise.
