Bhubaneswar: Odisha is set to join the ranks of semiconductor-producing regions by December this year, the state government announced on Monday.
Electronics and IT Minister Mukesh Mahaling, responding to a query in the State Assembly, revealed that RIR Power Electronics has been allocated 20,000 square feet at EMC Park in Bhubaneswar’s Infovalley to establish a semiconductor manufacturing unit.
“We expect production to commence by the end of December,” Mahaling stated, marking a significant step in Odisha’s industrial growth.
The Minister also highlighted collaborations with Singapore-based companies, with several Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) signed to bolster the state’s semiconductor ecosystem.
Beyond this, Mahaling noted that Odisha has become a hub for IT innovation, hosting approximately 300 IT firms between 1997 and 2024. To further enhance its technological infrastructure, the government has earmarked Rs. 100 crore in its budget to develop eight new Software Technology Parks of India (STPIs). Additionally, plans are underway to establish data centers in Keonjhar and Koraput districts.
Mahaling also announced the initiation of a Cable Landing Station (CLS) project in Puri, with a Detailed Project Report (DPR) currently in preparation. This coastal facility will connect undersea fiber optic cables to terrestrial networks, boosting international telecommunications and internet connectivity.
