Bhubaneswar: The state is set to experience its first spell of colder nights this week, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicting a drop in minimum (night) temperature by 2°C to 3°C over the next two days.
According to the IMD’s mid-day weather bulletin, the minimum temperature is very likely to fall by 2°C to 3°C across several districts of Odisha during the next 48 hours, with no major change expected thereafter. The fall in temperature will mark the beginning of the winter chill across the state.
At present, night temperatures remain significantly higher than normal. They are 5°C to 6°C above normal at many places in South Interior Odisha, 3°C to 5°C above normal at a few places in Interior Odisha, and 2°C to 3°C above normal at several locations in Coastal Odisha. Temperatures are normal in the remaining districts.
“Night temperature is likely to drop within the next two days and similar weather conditions may continue for a few more days,” said Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Bhubaneswar Meteorological Centre.
The IMD also indicated that clear skies and dry conditions are expected to prevail across most parts of the state during this period, leading to cooler nights and pleasant mornings.
Residents, especially in interior and western Odisha, may begin to feel the onset of winter as early morning and late-night temperatures start dipping.
