Bhubaneswar: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted rainfall in Odisha till December 21, with a possibility of heavy rainfall in some areas on December 20.
According to the IMD, the rain-bearing clouds are likely to cover the entire state, leading to rainfall in most areas. The department has also predicted a drop in temperature, with the minimum temperature likely to fall by 3-4 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for several districts, including Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Kendrapara, where heavy rainfall is likely to occur.
According to the prediction of IMD, the night temperature will rise by 2-3 degrees Celsius in the next 24 hours but will drop again by 3-4 degrees Celsius by December 21.
The IMD’s regional centre in Bhubaneswar has advised people to take necessary precautions and to stay indoors during heavy rainfall.
Going by IMD’s forecast, heavy rainfall is likely to lash Balasore, Bhadrak, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, and Kendrapara districts on December 20.

Odisha has witnessed a rise in night temperature and a dip in day temperature in the past 24 hours, according to the IMD. The night temperature in Rourkela rose from 5.7 degrees Celsius to 7.2 degrees Celsius. Similarly, in Jharsuguda, the night temperature increased from 8.2 degrees Celsius to 8.6 degrees Celsius.
In Phulbani, the night temperature rose significantly from 7.5 to 10 degrees Celsius. In Keonjhar, the night temperature increased from 8.9 degrees Celsius to 11.2 degrees Celsius, while in Angul, it rose from 9 degrees Celsius to 11 degrees Celsius.
The IMD has reported that the night temperature has risen in almost all parts of the state, leading to a decrease in cold wave conditions.
