Bhubaneswar: People were apprehensive that some corpses were lying beneath a coach of the ill-fated Yashwantpur – Howrah Express which was involved in the triple-train tragedy at Bahanaga in Balasore district.
However, the South Eastern Railway today clarified that three tonnes of eggs were being transported in the parcel van of the train. The foul smell at the site was coming from these eggs which were damaged, and rotten.
The smell was not because of any more bodies present under the coach or in the area, Chief Public Relations Officer, SER, Aditya Kumar Chaudhary said.
“There are no dead bodies. We had got site clearance from NDRF twice. Following complaints about a foul smell, another round of search began with Odisha government team. We discovered that the smell was because of the eggs,” he said.
The rotten eggs have been removed from the site with the help of three tractors, he added.
