Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government has put the official death toll in the June 2 three-train accident at Bahanaga Bazar railway station in Odisha’s Balasore district involving Bengaluru-Howrah express, the Coromandel Express, and a goods train, 275.
According to the train accident report published by the State Emergency Operation Center in the office of the Special Relief Commissioner, Government of Odisha on Sunday, of 1175 injured admitted to hospitals in Soro, Balasore, Bhadrak, and Cuttack, 336 have been discharged while another 382 are still under treatment.
To date, 88 bodies have been claimed while 187 are yet to be identified.
Hundred unidentified bodies of passengers have been kept at the AIIMS-Bhubaneshwar mortuary to make it easier for families to claim them. A Control Room has been set up at BMC-ICOMC tower at Satya Nagar in Bhubaneswar to facilitate family/friends/relatives of deceased persons and stranded passengers.
Earlier in the day, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw held a change in the electronic interlocking responsible for the accident. The minister denied that it had anything to do with the anti-collision system “Kavach”.
