Bhubaneswar: Unscrupulous people engaged in booking bus tickets to various destinations from Puri and Bhubaneswar have shown their true colours amid a national tragedy.
At a moment when the world is grieving one of the most horrifying train accidents in Indian rail history, these booking agents have skyrocketed bus ticket prices.
Such instances have been reported by passengers who are travelling to Kolkata from Puri and Bhubaneswar. Even online tickets are highly-priced, which is not common, they said.
Taking cognisance of the matter, Chief Secretary Pradeep Jena has issued directions to the Transport Department and Police to act immediately.
The State Transport Authority (STA) informed that RTO teams of Bhubaneswar, Balasore, Puri, and Cuttack have arranged buses for stranded passengers.
“Strict action will be taken against bus owners if any buses are charging an extra fare and harassing the people traveling from Puri / Bhubaneswar to West Bengal,” the STA stated.
