Balasore: Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw today announced Rs 2 Crore for the development of Bahanaga in Balasore district.
Vaishnaw made the announcement on the occasion of his visit to Bahanga today.
The minister announced Rs 1 crore from his MP local area development (MPLAD) fund and another Rs 1 crore from Railways funds for the development of Bahanaga village and the hospital there.
During his visit Vaishnav thanked the people of Bahanga.
The Railway Minister said that the way the people of Bahanaga cooperated and helped during the train accident has been appreciated by all.
In addition to that, he thanked the health workers, doctors and students who provided all services such as blood donation to the injured who came to the medical centre for treatment. He said that the debt of the people of Bahanaga can never be paid back.
The residents of Bahanaga and nearby villages were among the first responders on June 2, after the Chennai-bound Coromandel Express collided with a stationary goods train near Bahanaga Bazar railway station, leading to the derailment of several bogies that were then rammed into by the Yesvantpur Superfast Express that was heading to Howrah.
The tragedy claimed 292 lives and left more than 1,100 injured.
