Bhubaneswar: The State Transport Department has issued a directive to various departments and authorities in Odisha, urging them to take action against the unauthorised use of multicoloured flickering lights on vehicles
Principal Secretary of Commerce and Transport Department, Usha Padhee, wrote to the additional Chief Secretary, Revenue & Disaster Management Department, Additional Chief Secretary of Home Department, Principal Secretary of Housing and Urban Development Department, DGP and DG (Home Guards & Fire) in this regard.
He letter stated that many field functionaries and officials are using single-colored red or amber lights and multicoloured flickering lights without proper authorisation. The Transport Commissioner’s office has not received any requests for permission to use such lights, which is a clear disregard for the rules.
Padhee has requested that suitable instructions be issued to subordinate offices to refrain from using amber, red, or blue lights on their vehicles without due permission. Vehicles that are authorised to use multicoloured lights must obtain a sticker from the Transport Commissioner, Odisha, as specified in the Central Motor Vehicle Rules, 1989.
The directive aims to ensure compliance with the rules and prevent misuse of vehicle lights. The Transport Department has emphasised the need for strict adherence to the regulations, and departments have been asked to take necessary steps to enforce the rules.
