The state government has decided to observe Zero Fatality Fortnight from November 16 to 30 to create awareness about road safety and reduce accidents. During this period, the Commerce and Transport Department will organise various programs across the state focusing on the four ‘E’s – Enforcement, Engineering, Education, and Emergency Care.
A zero-tolerance policy will be adopted against road rule violators, and the inspection process will be intensified across the state. The department has issued guidelines to all district administrations to take necessary steps to reduce accidents, including correcting defects, putting up signage on roads, and creating awareness about road safety rules.
The public will be encouraged to save lives by providing immediate assistance to road accident victims. The government aims to reduce road accidents and related deaths, and has set a goal to make Odisha a developed state.
