Bhubaneswar: An ardent believer in rituals and auspices, Odisha’s Tansport and Commernce Minister Padmanabha Behera today assumed office after a systematic puja at his office chamber.
On Monday, Behera was accompanied by his wife Bishnu Priya, a head priest and some followers to the Minister’s chamber. The newly sworn-in Minister assumed office amid chanting of hymns and recitation of shlokas at the State Secretariat.
“I am a believer in Hindu traditions and puja is an integral part of my life. Before commencing any important work, I offer prayers to the almighty and seek his blessings for success,” said Behera. Bishnu Priya echoed her husband’s statement and said that she prayed for his successful tenure as a Minister.
Behera, the three-time MLA from Birmaharajpur has also been assigned the important department of Planning and Convergence in Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s Cabinet. He was also the Member of the 13th Lok Sabha representing Phulbani parliamentary constituency.
On the other hand, Behera’s colleague Ranendra Pratap Swain, Minister of Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare, Co-operation Department office-assuming ceremony was a low key affair. “Have you ever seen me doing Puja? I placed Lord Buddha’s idol on my desk, bowed before the idol and started my work,” said the seven-time MLA from Athagarh.
