Bhubaneswar: In a bold push toward integrated and inclusive development, the Odisha government has announced a comprehensive multi-sector infrastructure roadmap focusing on road networks, urban mobility, rural irrigation, and regional connectivity.
The vision was laid out by Works Minister Prithviraj Harichandan on Saturday, signaling the state’s long-term ambition to reshape its economic and social landscape.
At the heart of the plan is a massive ₹2.3 lakh crore investment to upgrade and expand road infrastructure across the state over the next five years. The initiative will enhance both urban and rural mobility, easing traffic congestion and strengthening Odisha’s logistical backbone.
As part of the urban focus, Ring Roads will be constructed in 11 major cities, including Odisha’s five largest urban centers. These circular transit corridors are aimed at decongesting city traffic, improving intra-city movement, and boosting the efficiency of goods and passenger transport systems.
In a major move to bridge developmental gaps in southern Odisha, the state will construct a new Greenfield Corridor connecting Berhampur to Jeypore. This new highway will open up underserved regions, drive regional trade, and enhance access to remote districts, fostering balanced economic growth.
Addressing rural and agricultural development, the government aims to bring 15 lakh hectares of farmland under assured irrigation within the same five-year span. This initiative is designed to reduce monsoon dependency, improve crop yields, and encourage crop diversification—benefiting lakhs of farmers and stimulating agro-based industries.
Minister Harichandan emphasized that the roadmap goes beyond physical infrastructure. “These initiatives are not only about development but about building a stronger, more connected, and inclusive Odisha that can compete with the best in the nation,” he said.
The government expects the plan to generate thousands of jobs, attract public and private investment, and dramatically uplift the standard of living statewide.
The multi-pronged strategy reflects Odisha’s growing focus on sustainable, tech-integrated, and regionally balanced growth, positioning it as a future-ready state in India’s evolving federal framework.
