Baripada: Mayurbhanj Superintendent of Police (SP) Smith P Parmar has transferred Inspector In-Charge (IIC) of Badasahi police station Biswaja Kumar Routray after a video clip showing the latter negotiating a bribe with a sand mafia went viral.
Routray has been ordered to immediately leave the police station premises on administrative grounds.
As per the SP’s communiqué, lady Sub Inspector (SI) Manjulata Dhada will remain in-charge of the police station. Dhada is currently posted in the same police station.
In the video, a voice supposedly of a sand smuggler is heard negotiating a deal with Routray for getting through illegally mined sand.
The sand smuggler is first heard offering Rs 10,000 for the deal. Finally, the deal is closed between the two for Rs 15,000 to be paid by the smuggler before Dusshera.
Here in the video, the IIC is seen and heard explaining the other man (sand smuggler) about the expenses he has to incur at the police station for Dussehra which includes dresses for his colleagues at the police station, puja in the police station premises and many other expenses which are not audible properly
The two are also heard discussing another deal with regard to smuggling of sand wherein the smuggler requests the IIC to manage the Additional Tahasildar since the Tahasildar doesn’t stay at the station in the night.
The sand smuggler is also heard asking the IIC on the number of members in his family to which the IIC is heard telling that he has two sons.
The smuggler then tells the IIC that he would get him hilsa fish, the day he (IIC) would be visiting his family at Baripada.
