Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths apprehended Kunja Bihari Rout, a Male Health Worker cum Clerk at Muniguda Community Health Centre (CHC) in Rayagada district, for taking a bribe.
According to reports, Rout was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000 from a poor farmer for issuing a birth certificate. Rout had initially taken Rs 3,000 as part of a total bribe demand of Rs 6,000, but insisted on the remaining amount to process the certificate.
The complainant farmer, unable to pay the remaining bribe amount, approached the Vigilance authorities, who laid a trap and caught Rout red-handed while taking the remaining bribe amount.
The vigilance team also recovered the entire tainted bribe money from the possession of the accused, Rout and seized it. Following the trap, simultaneous searches are going on at two locations linked to him for the Disproportionate Assets (DA) angle.
Koraput Vigilance registered a case in this connection. Investigation is in progress.
