Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday arrested Heblet Barla, Senior Revenue Assistant -cum-Record Keeper of Muribahal Tahasil in Bolangir district while demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 as the first installment of the overall demand of Rs 20,000 from a complainant for issuance of ROR (land patta) in his favour in a mutation case.
The complainant has been requesting the accused, Barla, to process his mutation case for a long time, as it was registered in 2019. But, Barla refused to do the work and demanded a bribe of Rs 20,000 to do the work.
Finding no option, the complainant informed about his harassment Barla to the Odisha Vigilance authority. Accordingly, Vigilance officials made a plan and nabbed the accused Barla red-handed while accepting Rs 10,000 as the first installment today from the complainant.
The entire bribe money has been recovered from the possession of Barla and seized.
Following the successful trap, simultaneous searches are underway at two locations of Barla from the disproportionate assets (DA) angle.
A case under Section 7 Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, has been registered in this connection at the Sambalpur Vigilance police station. Further investigation into the case is underway and a detailed report follows.
