Bhubaneswar: Odisha Vigilance sleuths on Wednesday arrested the Block Education Officer (BEO) of Daringbadi for reportedly misappropriating Rs 20 lakh from the teachers’ pension scheme under the Daringbadi block in Kandhamal district.
According to reports, the BEO, identified as Rasananda Kar, transferred Rs 10 lakh from the National Pension System of teachers to his account and invested it in the stock market in two phases from January.
An official release issued by Odisha Vigilance stated that they have been watching Rasananda for the past few months following reports of embezzlement of government funds. After collecting evidence, he was arrested and, he is being interrogated.
“We investigated after receiving reliable input about the alleged misappropriation of the teachers’ pension money by BEO Daringbadi, Rasananda Kar. We have arrested him and will enquire into the matter to collect more details,” said Vigilance Inspector Kumudini Sahu.
The Vigilance officials are probing how Rasananda transferred such a large amount to his account and whether anyone helped him.
